Dear Friends,

In September of 2024, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After months of tests and wondering and waiting, everything happened fast after that. By the end of October, I’d had a double mastectomy with reconstruction. I was fortunate in a lot of ways. It was Stage 1 Invasive Breast Cancer; they’d caught it early. There was one reason for that–a mammogram. My cancer was comprised of microcalcifications that can’t be felt by hand. Without that mammogram, my prognosis, recovery, and outcome could’ve been so much worse. The cancer also hadn’t spread into my lymph nodes, and with the double mastectomy, I didn’t have to undergo radiation or chemotherapy, another blessing. And another thing I owe that mammogram.

That’s why this October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’m joining my friends at Adventures by the Book and a group of other amazing authors in support of the many lives touched by breast cancer to raise awareness and money for Susan G. Komen. Just look at this amazing lineup of bestselling and beloved authors, all of whom have been personally impacted by breast cancer:

Robin Preiss Glasser • Kristin Harmel • Annabelle Gurwitch • Laura-Kamoie • Jenna Blum•  Susie Ghahremani • Zoe Ghahremani • Stacia Deutsch • Leslie Lehr • Katie Chu
